Bid shilling and bid shielding are two types of fraudulent practices that can occur during online auctions. These activities are aimed at manipulating the bidding process and can lead to unfair results for genuine bidders and sellers.
Bid shilling occurs when an individual or group of individuals work together to increase the bidding prices on behalf of the seller. This can be done by collaborating with someone else or creating a false identity to place bids on the seller's item. The aim is to deceive genuine bidders into bidding higher than they normally would, leading to the seller receiving a higher profit than they deserve.
Bid shielding, on the other hand, is when a buyer and a partner work together to artificially inflate the bids to discourage other bidders from bidding. The shielder will place high bids on the item, making it seem more valuable than it actually is. Then, at the last minute, the shielder cancels their high bid, allowing their partner to win the auction with a lower offer.
To prevent bid shilling and shielding on our platform, we have implemented strict policies. We do not allow bid retraction without emailing our support team to cancel the bid, and we record all bid retractions. This means that any bidder who tries to retract their bid without a valid reason will be flagged and may face consequences.
Additionally, we advise bidders to carefully review the item description and any images provided before placing a bid. If you are not sure about the item, we advise that you do not bid, as it is not fair to other bidders or the seller to place a bid without being certain about the item's value.
We take these fraudulent practices seriously and will not hesitate to take action against anyone found engaging in such activities. This can include suspending or banning the bidder from our platform and taking legal action if necessary. We are committed to providing a fair and transparent bidding environment for all our users, and we will continue to monitor our platform to ensure that these practices are not taking place.
